Lorina Stephens 2021
Lorina Stephens

I’ve worked all sides of the publishing desk: writer, editor, publisher. From freelance journalist for regional and national periodicals, to editor of a regional lifestyle magazine and then my own publishing house, I’ve been at this professionally since 1980 and have witnessed publishing evolve into the dynamic form of self-expression which exists today. For 12 years I operated Five Rivers Publishing as a house which gave voice to Canadian authors. Due to life circumstances, I had to change direction, and so now the house exists as a bit of a vanity press for me.

My short fiction has appeared in literary and genre publications, novels under my own house, Five Rivers Publishing, non-fiction under Boston Mills Press and an anthology co-edited with Susan MacGregor, Tesseracts 22: Alchemy and Artifacts.

As an artist I’ve been painting from the age of 14 when I studied under Dorothy Milne Eplett. Although I am comfortable working in oils, acrylics, pastels, pencil, and pen and ink, I work primarily in watercolour. The challenges of watercolour, and the ability to create luminosity in this demanding and technical medium is something which fascinates me.

Mostly I’m an introvert. You won’t find me at conventions, galleries and trade shows. On social media mostly I lurk. If you really want to know what I’m about, read my work, study my paintings. It’s that simple. If you’re curious, email me at: lorina@fiveriverspublishing.com
