Lorina Stephens to do simulcast Espresso book signing

On Saturday, March 27, 2010 Lorina Stephens will appear at the University of Waterloo bookstore, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. She will be signing copies of her latest novel, From Mountains of Ice, a cultural fantasy influenced by the Italian Renaissance, as well as her historical fantasy, Shadow Song, and collection of short stories, And the Angels Sang.

The signing will offer a unique and exciting experience for visitors, in that the UofW bookstore, under the management of  May Yan, is one of several locations across Canada to own and operate an Espresso Book Machine. All books sold will be printed on the EBM.

In addition, the event will be broadcast to the MacMaster University Bookstore, Titles, which is under the guidance of manager, author and editor, Mark Leslie Lefebvre. Connected via a large screen and live feed, visitors to Titles in Hamilton will be able to converse with Lorina, and participate in the event in Waterloo, purchase books and have them printed on the EBM at the McMaster location.

Asked how she feels participating in this sort of event, Lorina said, “I’m extremely excited about this event. When I decided to establish an indie press, I saw an opportunity for Five Rivers to make a difference, to utilize some of the cutting edge and dynamic technologies that are emerging in publishing and communications.

“The Espresso Book Machine is one of the major publishing technologies of the 21st Century. It just makes so much sense to have a machine and service that not only will print a book for you, print it beautifully, with quality, but allow you to select from thousands of titles available worldwide, without having to order in scores, even hundreds of books. It takes print on demand, environmental consciousness, and a sound economic business model to a whole new level.

“I’m very pleased to be part of this, and very pleased to be working with two such visionary people as May and Mark at these universities.”

Lorina Stephens alluded to the fact this signing of hers is likely the test model for future events for other Five Rivers authors.
