Yesterday’s Book Signing

It would appear I had stiff competition for yesterday’s book signing at Indigo in Burlington, in the form of the first glorious spring day in Ontario. In fact, it was positively summery out there, and people opted to stay ‘out there’ rather than return to concrete and glass as they have all winter. Staff, who normally would have been kept quite busy, found time to tidy, dust, chat, and I sat there making notes for the next novel (after From Mountains of Ice).

About seven books sailed out the door, which is a dismal performance given I usually see between 15 and 20, at a typical signing, go home with people. Any customers who did come in were usually solo or in tight, focused knots who dove in for a specific book, a Starbucks, and a quick escape into warmth and sunlight. In fact, there were so few people that it was futile to make any attempt at a reading. But that’s fine. I don’t mind the competition from Mother Nature, and those people who did purchase my books were certainly enthusiastic.

So, if you’re in the Burlington area and like hundreds of others succumbed to the siren call of spring on Saturday, my books are now available at Indigo, 1250 Brant Street, Burlington.

On a personal note, it was great to hook up with Uncle Norm and his lovely lady Liz, and with my long-lost-but-now-found cousin, Deb Rupric, and at last to meet her husband, Frank. We all trundled a few box stores down to grab salads and drinks, share news, laugh, re-connect. And then a storm of biblical proportions screamed in, blew out the doors of the noshery, and we all started looking around for frogs and locusts. When finally the monsoon diminished to a mere rain, Gary and I said our cheerios and made the trek back home again.

And now to prepare for the next gig at Coles in Orangeville, with Paul Lima, May 16. Hope to see you there!
