Like Babel, we couldn’t figure out what the hype was. Felt very much this was a Royalist propaganda film. Are we the only ones who thought that? While Helen Mirren’s acting is always excellent, we felt there wasn’t anything particularly brilliant about this film either by way of acting, cinematography, screenplay, even score. It was interesting, yes. But Academy Award winning? Definitely not.

Stunning film. A true fairy tale. Absolutely heart-breaking. I still burst into tears and feel desolate at the memory of it. You MUST see this film.There is nothing to criticize: cinematography is stunning, cgi excellent, acting real and believable, screen-play beautifully crafted.This one will be an addition to our video library. A classic!

Oh yawn. Don’t bother. Watched the DVD last night. Mediocre acting, cinematography, screenplay. Will be reading the novel in a few weeks and see if that’s any better than this very underwhelming film.

In a word: Fabulous! Despite some liberal tweaking of the novel, the pace and story of this installment of the series is excellent. The acting is better and better. Some very artistic and adept cinematography that does everything to portray Harry’s isolation and urgency in those scenes of action. The film very skillfully echoes the darkness of the novel, and is in a way a coming of age for both Harry and the film series….
